In the Dragon’s Shadow – An Adventure Novel

Every year, upon the Phoenix’s death and rebirth, the island is also born anew. Jungle may appear where once a desert existed, swamps might be replaced with a placid lake, and highland hills could become treacherous, forbidding mountains. Those who live on the island are trapped by a mysterious and impenetrable fog. They cannot leave, and few ever find their way to the island.

Minnie Sayber, at 18 years of age, has it all together–until it all falls apart. Life is good, and she has found purpose in using her Gift to heal those in need. She is well liked, part of the king’s inner circle, and no longer an outcast, but when an ambassadorial delegation arrives from Taninim with a proposal that would bring peace between the two feuding city states, things begin to go all wrong for her.

Very quickly, Minnie finds herself plunged into a world of intrigue, assassination, and violent political maneuvering that threatens not only her own life, but the lives of her friends and her king. Together with Roy, an enigmatic young man she had befriended on her adventure to the Phoenix Nest, she must embark on a dangerous mission that could undermine everything she’s ever held dear or believed in. When personal motives clash with duty, Minnie makes a reckless decision that could very well get her killed, no matter what she does.

The island cares not for these things, and its own seasons turn on its own schedule, revealing that Taninim’s citizens and their evil plots are only part of the danger they must face. Caught out in the wilds during the upheaval of the Rebirth, Minnie will be forced to complete her mission in a world that radically and even violently changes around her. The Year of the Dragon has come, and the Dragon’s power overshadows the land. Worse, the Dragon is aware of Minnie’s mission, and he has plans of his own for her and her friends.

Explore the Island

"The author's desire is to create stories that his children would enjoy...and the result is a another story for all ages. It centers on the three young adults who returned from the previous book's quest. They have matured and have been given gift(s) to be used to help those in their kingdom. A serious threat occurs and they embark on a mission. This time, the key character in the quest has changed from the first book. The reader sees her struggles and also shares in her journey to recognition/resolution. The bonds of friendship are clearly shown along the way. It is an interesting twist to see how their physical world has radically changed as well as the behavior of some of its occupants. Again, dangers and challenges, twists and turns make it interesting and the lessons learned are good reminders to us all."
